and it is my intention that this list of resources makes a difference for you and what you’re out there causing in the World!
This is a list of resources I’ve created by curating the best of the many things I’ve come across for you. The focus is Leadership, Communication & Presentation. As you probably know, I believe that TED is one of the best things to happen to Oral Tradition in a long time and the lessons you can learn as a leader are profound. You don’t have to want to give a TED talk to benefit from the resources below. If you want to communicate better, get more of what you want, inspire loyalty, be trusted & remembered (in a good way!) then the resources below will make a real difference for you.
One of the best books about creating compelling presentations to come out recently is Nancy Duarte’s book Resonate.
If you’re more of a Harvard Business Review person she also wrote their Guide to Persuasive Presentations.
Craig Valentine’s book World Class Speaking is also a brilliantly useful book. Don’t let it’s simplicity fool you. It’s very good stuff.
And, a perennial classic for the world of speaking and for the world in general, is Influence by Robert Cialdini.
Jeremy Donovan’s book, How to Deliver a TED Talk is also worth reading.
If you’d like a very concise (only 9 pages long), excellent resource for how to use Powerpoint when you’re presenting check out Seth Godin’s Really Bad Powerpoint PDF. It is awesome.
Here is a YouTube playlist of some Absolutely Great TED Speeches I’ve chosen to give you insights into great speaking. These speeches are places to find inspiration, learn from the masters and just enjoy. Whether you love them as much as I do or not they’re worth watching and considering. Each speaker has a very different style. I put both of Brene Brown’s videos in because I think her message is so important to speakers.

Here’s a short, fun TED talk on How to Start a Movement, it’s a great message for leaders!
Speaking of Leaders, Simon Sinek’s most recent talk about Leadership, given at TED 2014 is brilliant. He’s a great speaker and his message is definitely something for which to strive. I know for a fact that he creates himself as being of service to the audience when he speaks. How Great Leaders Inspire Loyalty
If you’re interested in Leadership then I’ve got a few more book suggestions for you.
Simon Sinek’s book Leaders Eat Last is a phenomenal book about leadership which I believe is important and excellent. (If you haven’t already read Start With Why, it is most excellent, too!)
If you’re willing to let go and let your team become dramatically more productive I strongly recommend the book Scrum: The Art of Doing Twice the Work in Half the Time by Jeff Sutherland, the guy who invented Scrum. It’s highly interesting and if you can let go of the usual way of doing things it could make you a billionaire.
